The latter part of the 1600s was not a good time for Tauntonions or possibly most of the country. This period saw the English civil war and its repercussions. As Taunton mostly took the side of the parliament it ultimately paid a heavy price. The exception to this below is Perkin Warbeck which was a conflict that occurred in 1400s.
